Denver Gaels GAA
Friday, March 30th, 2007SPREAD THE WORD - SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS!
With the advent of Spring it’s time for us all to dust off our boots/hurleys/footballs and our picnic paraphrenalia and get together as a club to celebrate the kick-off of the Gaels’ season as well as to do an inaugural event at our newest practice/game venue - Dick’s Sporting Good Fields, home of the Colorado Rapids! Here’s the plan for the day:
12:00 - 12:30 - Everyone arrives at the Rapids practice fields at I70 & Quebec by around noon on Saturday 14th April and sets up for the afternoon. Plans should be to bring something to sit on, some food to share, and your sports gear to use.
1:00 - 2:00: Coed Adult’s Football Match - field a team of new and experienced players to get the football up and running. We’ve had a good turnout of new men’s and women’s footballers (as well as a few kids!) during the Sunday clinics thus far, and with our exposure in the Westword and on 9News last Sunday, we expect a greater influx of players to reinvigorate the men’s team and build up the women’s team.
2:00 - 3:00: Coed Hurling Match: field a team of new and experience players to play some hurling and especially to give our many new players the chance to play in a ‘real’ game situation. Emphasis is on using skills and giving people playing time, so expect a lot of subs!
3:00 - 4:00: Youth’s (or mixed, if needed to make numbers) Football Match: field the youth’s team (and perhaps a few of the adults as well) to play a match, with an emphasis on good game play, introducing new players to the field and game, and generally having a good time.
4:00 - after: Finish the food and drink, clean up the pitch, and go get ready for the April Gaels Social and Fundraiser
6:30PM - 9:30OPM: Denver Gaels April Social and Fundraiser at the Irish Rover, 54 South Broadway, Denver - $20 gets you those 3 hours of free wines, well drinks and draughts (including Guinness, Smithwick’s, Harp, Strongbow, and the rest). Where else can you drink your fill for $20 on a Saturday night? While the Jameson’s, Tuaca, Irish Car Bombs and Jaegermeister aren’t included in this deal, they’re still available for purchase. Tommy Thompson starts playing and singing at 9PM sharp, and we’ll have a few raffles for things you’re sure to enjoy.
Tickets will be available starting this Sunday at our Second New Player Sports (Football and Hurling) Clinics at Cook Park and throughout the next two weeks, and the event is open to anyone of eligible age. TICKETS ON THE DAY GO UP TO $30, SO GET YOURS EARLY AND INVITE YOUR FRIENDS! 100% of the proceeds go to the Gaels, so come out with your mates and support the club as well as have a great time.
PLEASE RSVP TO denvergaels@yahoo.com BY WEDNESDAY APRIL 11TH!!!!!

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007Conor O’Neill’s - Boulder
Tuesday, March 27th, 2007What can you say that the press hasn’t covered about this great pub in the heart of Boulder. It was once called the James and was the stomping ground of Colcannon at that time. A few years on and it’s now a happening music venue, Irish pub and gathering place.
The Sawdoctors amoung others have stopped by in the past. There alway’s a party spirit week round.
The Indulgers play once a month (sometimes even twice) at Conor’s. This Friday is the next show, March 30th at 10pm.
In the meantime, Wild Mountain Celts are at Conor’s on WED at 9pm and McCabes (new sister pub in southeast Aurora) on Thurs at 8pm.
Mountain Getaway….Irish styling’s
Sunday, March 25th, 2007Centered on ten acres of pine and aspen, the Irish Rose was designed to accommodate those who want a true Colorado experience. With Mosquito Creek flowing nearby, you will enjoy spectacular views of Pennsylvania and London Mountains as you relax with family and friends. If summer hiking, biking or four-wheeling is your desire, four of Colorado’s 14,000 foot peaks are at your doorstep, providing some of the best hiking and driving trails in the world. Tackle the summits of Mount Bross, Mount Democrat, Mount Cameron, and Mount Lincoln… all in a single day!
Gold pan on the local creeks, explore “Buckskin Joe” trail, and visit the ghost town of Park City. The historic mining towns of Alma and Fairplay are also nearby. Mountain bike to your heart’s content or drive the legendary 4×4 “Mosquito Pass” into Leadville. Pick wildflowers and view wildlife–there’s something for everyone!
If winter activities are your goal, the beautiful village of Breckenridge is just a short drive north where you can enjoy premier Colorado skiing, dining, and shopping. Keystone, Arapahoe Basin, and Copper Mountain are also close. Or, stay near home and cross-country ski to your heart’s content. We have it all!
The Irish Rose was built with families in mind. The main level has a great room with a gas fireplace and floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing the beautiful mountains and trees. It is surrounded by a huge 32 by eight foot wrap-around deck. A full kitchen and dining area are also on this level to create an open, spacious environment. Pets are NOT allowed, No Smoking.
There are two main level bedrooms, one with a queen bed, and one with bunk beds geared for up to four kids. The great room sofa also pulls out to a queen-size bed. The master bedroom loft has a queen bed, washer and dryer, along with a small private balcony. There are full baths on both the main level and the loft. (The cabin also has a lower level with a private entrance which is occasionally used by the owners. This unit is not rented. Please inquire whether anyone will be there during your stay.)
Experience the Rocky Mountains in the comfort of the “Irish Rose.” At over 10,000 foot elevation, it’s as close to heaven as you can get!
Ireland 1 - Wales 0
Saturday, March 24th, 2007Off to Ireland……..would you like to come along………you certainly can.
We’re listening into the Ireland v Wales soccer/football match on the net. The boys in green are ahead by a goal at Croke Park, on the northside of Dublin. The Indulgers will be taking a trip over NOV 7th-14th 2007 to the Emerald Isle. A visit to this brand new stadium is something we should have on our places to visit list. My memories of the old Croke Park include when the “Dubs” were great and the craic on Hill 16 (the home supporters section) and later on when my old friend Charlie Redmond was the star for the team for a time.
