These three bands have shared stages at various festivals through the

to Swallow Hill.

“Gob” is slang for your mouth in Ireland and Scotland. Gobs O’Phun is a
vocal trio whose songs tell stories. Tim and Denis Sullivan, along with
brother-in-law Martin Lambuth, are the Gobs. Framed with humor, their
songs bring tears to your eyes…be it through laughter, joy, sorrow,
pride or an occasional sour note. www.gobsophun.com

Lalla Rookh, a five-piece Celtic band, has been playing together for more
than a decade. Starting with traditional material—ballads, jigs, and
stories of romantic adventures—Lalla Rookh adds fresh and vital energy to
their arrangements. www.lallarookh.com

The Wild Mountain Celts are an Irish folk trio comprised of members of
The Indulgers: Dublin native Damien McCarron (guitar, bodhran, and
vocals), Renee Fine (fiddle), and Mike Nile (guitar, mandolin, whistle,
harmonica, and accordion). www.shamrocker.com

Rock & Reel with the Indulgers Tour in Ireland this November

They say the best way to experience a country is to experience it with a local. Irish born and raised Damien McCarron promises a “trip of a lifetime” to all who join him in a journey back home to Ireland this November.Damien and his Denver based band, The Indulgers (Damien, Pat Murphy, Renee Fine, Chris Murtaugh, and Mike Nile) have planned a great tour at a great price in conjunction with Hammond Travel. Arrangements have been made for you to spend seven days enjoying the sites of Ireland’s cities and countryside and spend six nights in some of Erin’s best hotels. At press time Damien was shoring up some of the band related details in Ireland i.e., arranging equipment, gigs, and working the Irish media. “There’s many bits to get in place, but it’s happening fast and I’ve had some terrific help.” said Damien, “So far, we’ve secured a gig in Ennis (Barge Rooms) on the Friday night, Johnny Fean (guitarist for historic Irish rock band Horslips ) will be our guest on that bill, so that’s very exciting”.
On the last night of the tour Damien has secured a gig in Portmarnock (Dublin) near his hometown of Howth where “My mammy and family will be on hand and look forward to meeting everyone.”

Excited about the musical aspects of the tour Damien adds, “I can’t imagine that we could ever of pulled this off
in any past lifetimes… and the band is licking it’s lips looking forward to seeing where the roots of Irish music came from in Co. Clare and the country in general.”No doubt there will be plenty of songs song and tunes played (planned or otherwise), the tour offers much more than music. The fun starts upon as you arrive in the morning at Dublin Airport where you will be greeted by your professional Driver/Guide who will take you on a panoramic tour of historic Dublin, one of Europe’s’ most beautiful cities. Prior to checking in to your hotel you will already have seen the statue-filled O’Connell Street, The General Post Office scene of the 1916 Easter Uprising, as well as Georgian Square. The afternoon is yours to check out Trinity College and the Book of Kells, the Guinness Brewery, or enjoy strolling along the popular Grafton Street with plenty of trendy shops and entertaining buskers (maybe you will see Glen Hansard or Liam O’Maonlai :) – hey, it’s possible on the GS!).Your tour continues through the heartland of Ireland to the wonderful West Coast.
Begin in County Galway and its beautiful cities and surrounds. Check out the rugged Gaelic speaking region of Connemara, the humble outreachs of the Aran Islands, or the Kylemore Abby via Clifden. Now, trough the traditionalsounds of Clare and onto the castles and sights of Limerick, Cashel, and Kilkenny. Your tour continues south to County Cork for a visit to Blarney where you can pucker-up and smooch the famous 14th century “Kissing Stone” and check out the Blarney Woolen Mills which sells everything Irish.
Heading back towards Dublin with stops in Kilkenny, Athy-Naas, culminating in the last night “Hooley in Howth” with Damien, band family and friends.

‘We have folks from Canada, South Dakota, Wyoming, Virginia and Colorado on board - Even some Irish person living in Colorado have
signed on, which is very cool”, said Damien who added, “ We’d love to see more folks sign up -this is going to be a trip to remember.”

Denver’s Dangerous Theatre is excited to be able to offer such a treat to the Denver theatre audience. A Time to Go Walking has been a sell out in many Canadian and European cities. When it was produced at the Orlando (FL) Fringe Theater Festival people were scalping the $10 tickets for upwards of $50! Peter Mc Garry of Eyewitness Theatre will be traveling to Denver to assist in the direction of this play. A Time to Go Walking is a love story about death. Beautifully written such that the audience laughs as much as it cries. Set in rural Western Ireland, dreamer Dicky Mick Dicky believes his own demise is near and plans to walk out to meet it while his suffering wife Kate knows not what to do about her own impending death. It is easy to befriend these characters and feel for them and their enduring devotion. Tissues will be provided!

Here’s what the press had to say about A Time to Go Walking:

Kerrymen

Based on the novels of JOHN B KEANE [Ireland’s favorite writer] this extraordinary play peruses the antics of the hero [DICKY MICK DICKY, Peter Mc Garry] and his ‘impending death’. Rather than await the inevitable, Dickey, to the chagrin of his long-suffering wife, [KATE, Erin Geraghty] decides it is time to head off west, like the Celts did in Ancient Times and walk into the ‘Otherworld’

Beautifully scripted this is old-tyme Irish romance. Funny and tear jerking. It’s a treat!

Mail

A beautiful sojourn into the mysterious, mesmerizing, magical life of Dicky Mick Dicky, resident of Barra’s Well in the remote West of Ireland – and the hysterically funny situations he creates, not least walking off into the sunset to start life over as an angel. A tale of love and death beautifully told, brilliantly illustrated. Bring your handkerchief.

The Passing of a legend

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

Tommy Makem (November 4, 1932 - August 1, 2007) was an internationally celebrated folk musician, artist, poet and storyteller from Ireland, most known as a member of The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem. He played the banjo and tin whistle and sang in a baritone. He was sometimes known as “The Bard of Armagh” (taken from a traditional song of the same name) and “The Godfather of Irish Music”.

He was born and raised in Keady, County Armagh, Northern Ireland. His mother, Sarah Makem, was also a successful folk singer, as well as an important source of traditional Irish music, who was visited and recorded by, among others, Diane Guggenheim Hamilton, Jean Ritchie, Peter Kennedy and Sean O’Boyle. After moving to the United States in 1955, he teamed up with the Clancy Brothers, who were signed to Columbia Records in 1961. The same year, at the Newport Folk Festival, Makem and Joan Baez were named the most promising newcomers on the American folk scene. During the 1960s, the Clancy Brothers with Tommy Makem performed sellout concerts at such venues as Carnegie Hall and made television appearances on shows like The Ed Sullivan Show and The Tonight Show. Makem left the group in 1969 to pursue a solo career. In 1975, he and Liam Clancy were both booked to play a folk festival in Cleveland, Ohio, and were persuaded to do a set together. Thereafter they performed as Makem and Clancy, recording several albums together. He once again went solo in 1988.

Makem’s best-known songs include “Four Green Fields“, “Gentle Annie“, “Red is the Rose”, “The Rambles of Spring”, “The Winds Are Singing Freedom”, and “Farewell to Carlingford”.

Makem died in Dover, New Hampshire but continued to record and perform until very close to the end. His sons Shane, Conor and Rory (”The Makem Brothers“) and nephew Tom Sweeney continue the family folk music tradition.
