DNC moments at Fado & Celtic Tavern

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Lots of excitement in Denver this past week. Lots of the movers and shakers of the modern world. Sightings, gatherings and the like. At one point The Indulgers were joined onstage at Fado by four State Govenors and the Rev. Jesse Jackson. Security was tight and with the journalists flashing the cameras, the scene for an Irish pub was surreal in many ways. Management was in full control with so many secret service chaps, we all felt very safe that no-one would steal a pint on the night and that asking for the house darts might be a very bad idea. We also played over at the Celtic Tavern as the Wild Mountain Celts for our pals from New Jersey. It’s fair to say that every politican we meet enjoys singing.

Thanks to the staff of Gov. Martin O’Malley (Maryland) and Congressmen Bill Pascrell & Frank Pallone (New Jersey) for our two days out and about at the DNC. A historic week in the city of Denver.

What a finish to the week. THE TASTE OF COLORADO was wonderful today. Thank you all for coming to the shows.

A truly honest to God Dubliner, the father of Irish folk music and it’s heritage, a great man. A few years ago while looking a criss (woven Irish belt) I had the man himself send on onehe’d found at his home. That he could send it to me, a stranger in America, was a high point in life I won’t ever forgot. RIP Ronnie Drew, there’s no replacing you.
